Bodog Ari

I'm Ari Engel and am also known as BodogAri online. I've played poker for a living for virtually my entire post-college life. In the last few years I have started teaching people my style and philosophy on poker tournaments. Many of them have done very well. If you are interested in getting my help, email:

How do you play the nuts?

I'll come out betting, and keep playing it strong the whole way many times. This is one of them. If I start pulling checkraises etc. I don't think there is any chance that I win a 1470 chip pot.

Whatup Ari. Cool to get a little insight to your thought process, however small (not meant to be a backhanded compliment, i'm just linguistically limited). I look forward to seeing your videos on RPT, as long as I dont end up getting abused on one of em. Hopefully I'll come up with some decent questions to coax a little more info out of you. Or I can just attack all your plays and demand answers like ship it, cuz obv you owe us all damnit. Keep up the ownage. btw - self honesty is highly under-rated and occasionally elusive, was glad to see you mention it, very good point.

Sir, sir (lol) I never attacked his plays I questioned a FEW of them, and I'm glad I did..
I learned a few things.. also never demanded answers,I asked for replys after all this is a place to discuss poker and hands.. I said I would move on if he didn't have the time or chose not to.. He is a good player, and he's proven he's a good sport too. I play in mostly cash games and some tourneys and playing his style in cash games calling big raises and reraising with average hands one would get killed, especially in limit games.. however in tourneys because you can't reach in your pocket for more $$
it's a whole different ballgame..
once you find the tight players you can steal alot unless they raise first.. also against fish you can just outplay them with a good hand.. no use in trying to bluff most fish as they call too often...Most importantly Ari's reasons for playing as he does does make sense as he can get players to call him with his good hands, plus the fact his aggressiveness can win pots on the spot even with trash. His last words saying he didn't even think he would be a winning tourney player if he didn't play this way speaks a TON... Thanks Ari for taking the time to respond...

Shipit, I probably could (should) have left out that sentence about you, I tend to read too much into my perception of a writer's tone. Discussion is furthered more by disagreement than echoes.

I look forward to talking with all of you. I feel poker is unique in the fact that one has access to the minds of top-level professionals moreso than any other industry I can think of. If I was an engineering major, I probably couldnt ask a bigwhig at toyota to break down their variablevalve timing, but with poker this interaction is virtually limitless. One of my chief post-sportsbettingmeltdown bankrole depletion resolutions is (besides never sportsbetting again) to take advantage of the wealth of information and experience that others offer. My first of course is to crack one of the major sites RNG's (obv).

oh, and it wasnt the first ever, but the mention is appreciated nonetheless.

There are certain hands I'm sure ariiiii will or will not resteal fact, AJ is one of those hands I'm sure Ariiii will not resteal with, because if called, he can ONLY hope for a coinflip. Also, this play is risky, but it can get opponents to lay down hands and give ariii a lot of chips without ever seeing a's better than a traditional steal because it represents more strength...also, i'm sure ariiii picks his spots, he's not just raising with 28 when a v tight ep player raises...he even said it was a mp raiser

5:38 AM

ALERT*** This is not a Ari knockdown!

I watched him raise to about 10,000 after a guy had raised in early position about 2000 the guy then reraises all in 21,000 more and ari called with K5s.. He forgot the exact play of this hand but I saw it... his whole tourney was on the line here. Midway through the tourney.. It was a bodog 25,000 guaranteed.. guy showed 10 10 King flopped and Ari went on to get 5th... If all of you only tell him how GREAT he is he won't get better lololol

I was curious if you ever considered changing the
structure of your blog? Its very well written; I love what youve got to
say. But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could connect with it
better. Youve got an awful lot of text for only having 1 or two images.
Maybe you could space it out better?
